A choropleth map uses color shading to compare numeric values across geographic areas. The MKTechTools Choropleth Map Generator is designed for users who need clear administrative-area maps but do not want to work with shapefiles, latitude and longitude coordinates, GIS software, or complicated spatial joins.
Choose a supported country and administrative boundary level, download the ready-made Excel or CSV template, enter your indicator values in the final value column, and upload the completed file. The tool automatically matches your data with the correct geographic boundaries using administrative codes.
You can view the entire country or focus the map on an individual province, division, region, state, or similar first-level administrative area, depending on the country.
Built for humanitarian, development and public health mapping
This tool is especially useful for people working with geographically disaggregated data in humanitarian response, development programmes, public health, monitoring and evaluation, research, social-sector planning, disaster response, education, poverty analysis, population studies, and service delivery.
For example, you can create district-level maps showing population, health-service coverage, disease incidence, vaccination coverage, school enrollment, poverty, food security, displaced populations, programme coverage, infrastructure, or other numeric indicators.
The goal is to make thematic mapping accessible to analysts, programme teams, researchers, field staff and decision-makers who may have data in Excel but do not use specialist GIS software.
Multiple countries and administrative areas
The Choropleth Map Generator is designed as a multi-country mapping tool. Supported countries use built-in administrative boundaries, so users do not need to locate or upload their own shapefiles.

Three color interpretations
Neutral
Use the neutral sequential color scale when higher values are neither inherently positive nor negative. This works well for population, households, facilities, beneficiaries, programme participants or service volumes.
Higher is better
Use the green color scale when higher values generally represent a more favorable outcome, such as literacy, vaccination coverage, school enrollment, service access or programme coverage.
Higher is worse
Use the yellow-to-red color scale when higher values indicate greater concern, such as mortality, disease incidence, malnutrition, poverty, disaster impact or displacement.
No GIS software or coordinates required
You do not need ArcGIS, QGIS, shapefiles, latitude/longitude coordinates, or GIS expertise. The downloadable template already contains the geographic names and codes required by the mapping engine.
Simply keep those geography fields unchanged, add your numeric values, and upload the completed file. The map is generated in your browser, where you can explore individual areas, view indicator values on hover, focus on a selected province or region, and download the resulting map as a PNG image.
Designed to grow
The mapping engine is geography-independent. New countries and administrative levels can be added without changing the basic workflow.
This allows MKTechTools to gradually build a practical collection of administrative boundaries for countries where humanitarian, development, public health and research mapping is commonly required.
